Randy Porter, 72, of Briggsdale, Colorado, passed away peacefully at his home on September 10, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born to Donald and Jean Porter on June 7, 1954.
Randy grew up in Grover, Colorado, where he attended Pawnee School and graduated in 1972. During his school years, he was active in sports, band, and Vo-Ag. After high school, Randy attended college in Iowa, where he majored in Animal Science. It was during this time that he began his rodeo career, competing in bronc riding, bull riding, and calf roping.
Throughout his life, Randy worked in many different roles that reflected his love of the outdoors, animals, and the Western way of life. He worked as a ranch hand, veterinary assistant, range rider, and truck driver. He was also a talented welder and could build or repair just about anything. Anything built by Randy was known to be “Porter strong.”
Randy married Beth Nusbaum in 1983, and they later divorced. On September 14, 2009, he married Cindy Kindvall and became a loving father to her three children. Randy treasured his family and especially enjoyed being a grandpa. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, attending their activities, teaching them life skills, and sharing his knowledge and experiences with them.
Randy was a lifetime member of the Grover Community Club and looked forward to helping with the Grover Rodeo. He also enjoyed participating in the local team roping event. Randy loved being around people and could often be found catching up with old friends and “shooting the breeze.” His easygoing nature, stories, humor, and willingness to lend a hand will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Randy was preceded in death by his grandparents and his father, Donald David Porter.
He is survived by his wife, Cindy; his children and grandchildren: Barry Kindvall, (Dustin and Roslyn); Brandon Kindvall and Morgan, (their children); and Jen Cottrell and John, (Dane and Eli). He is also survived by his brothers, Rick (Faith) Porter of Goodland, Kansas, and Clint (Maggie) Porter of Pierce, Colorado; his sister, Vickie (Kevin) Schinzel of Pine Bluffs, Wyoming; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Randy leaves behind a lifetime of memories, friendships, stories, and lessons that will continue to live on through his family, friends, and the many lives he touched. His love of family, rodeo, ranch life, and helping others will be remembered and cherished.
