Gilbert will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery.
Gilbert was born August 11, 1936, in Sterling, Colorado, to Doris Pauline (Witter) Lindstrom and Lorin Dessel Lindstrom.
He graduated from Sterling High School and went on to attend Colorado State University. During his college years, Gilbert attended First Baptist Church, where he met Violet Hlad. They were united in marriage on August 23, 1959, and their lifelong partnership was rooted in love for one another, their family, and their devotion to Christ.
Gilbert and Violet made their first home in Fort Collins, Colorado, while Gilbert completed his master’s degree in Soils Chemistry. After receiving a Fulbright Research Scholarship, they moved to Australia, where Gilbert conducted research at the Waite Research Institute. During their time there, they welcomed their first daughter, Ruth.
Upon returning to Colorado, Gilbert and Violet settled southeast of Sterling, where Gilbert farmed alongside his father. Their family grew with the arrival of two more daughters, Mary and Beth. He farmed throughout his career, taught Agribusiness and Soils Chemistry at Northeastern Junior College, and worked with Colorado State University on agricultural research and test plots on his land.
Gilbert loved Jesus and faithfully served him throughout his life. He taught Sunday School and served as an elder at Sterling Berean Church. He was also involved in prison ministry at the Sterling Correctional Facility and served with Gideons International. His ministry extended overseas when he traveled to Belarus with Campus Crusade for Christ and taught at a Bible school. His faith in Christ was central to his life and a lasting legacy for his family.
Gilbert was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Violet May Lindstrom, and his parents, Doris and Lorin Lindstrom, and his sister, Janice Boegler.
His greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his daughters: Ruth (Dennis) Mullins, Mary (Matt) Brewer, and Beth (Dan) Holsten; his grandchildren: Nathaniel (Becca), Alison, Josh, Emily, Michael (Bethany), Mark (Rachel), Megan (Dylan), Andrew, and Rachel; and 11 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Dale Lindstrom, and his sister, Paula Stensvaag.
Gilbert will be remembered for his devotion to Christ, his love for his family, and his dedication to farming, agricultural education, and serving others.
Memorial gifts can be sent to Sterling Berean Church or The Gideon’s International. The service will be livestreamed at https://www.facebook.com/sterlingberean and will be available for viewing until Nov. 17, 2026.
