Robert “Bob” Tuttle, 82
July 8, 1936 – March 15, 2019
Delta, Colo.
Bob Tuttle passed away on March 15, 2019, at Crossroads Assisted Living in Delta. Bob was 82 years old.
Funeral services for Tuttle were held on March 21, 2019, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Delta, with Rev. Kurt Van Fossan officiating. Burial followed in the Mesa View Cemetery in Delta with Military honors by Lee Marts V.F.W. Post #3571.
Born July 8, 1936, on a farm near Hotchkiss, Colo., Bob attended school in Hotchkiss and Gunnison before moving to and graduating from Wellington High School in 1954. There he met and married his wife of 64 years, Frances Schilling.
He served in the U.S. Air Force for four years, including a tour in Korea. Bob then attended Colorado State University, graduating with a vocational agriculture degree in 1963. He returned to CSU in 1976 to obtain his master’s degree in education. He taught high school vocational agriculture for over 30 years at Oak Creek, Gunnison, Delta and Cedaredge high schools before retiring in 1991. He returned to teaching at Fruita High School in 1997 for one year.
He served as a National officer for the Vocational Agriculture Teachers Association. He continued to be active in the FFA and agricultural community for many years. His contributions to Colorado agriculture were rewarded many times including the high honor of induction into the Colorado Agriculture Hall of Fame in 2015.
He was a member of the Lions Club, Delta Planning Committee and Delta County Fair Board.
He is survived by his son Stuart and wife Mary of Flagstaff, Ariz., and a sister, Edith Gutowski of Pontiac, Mich. He was preceded in death by his wife Frances, sons Steven and Michael and parents Walter and Ermadean.
Bob and his wife Frances were members of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Delta for over 50 years. He was especially grateful to the Delta County community, the staff at HopeWest Hospice and the staff at Crossroads Assisted Living for their support, care and compassion.
